How much to charge for cinnamon rolls

A 9 x 13 inch pan of King Arthur's cinnamon rolls has $4.46 of ingredients, or $0.37 a roll. Add 30 cents of packaging per roll, 40 minutes of work at an example $15 an hour and 10% overhead, and each roll costs $1.66. At a 40% margin that is $2.76 a roll, or $33.11 for the pan. Pre-orders usually come in boxes, so the last table prices 6, 12 and 24.

What one pan costs

The recipe makes 16 rolls in two 9 inch round pans, with 25 minutes of hands-on time. Its tips say the same dough gives 12 rolls in a 9 x 13 inch pan, which is the version used here. The glaze uses the heavy cream option at 4 tablespoons. The 40 minutes of labor is the recipe's 25 plus 15 of my own for glazing and boxing. Flour, sugar, butter, milk and eggs use the September 2026 U.S. averages from the BLS. Everything with a star is my placeholder price, so put your receipts in.

The butter is 16.6% of the ingredient bill and the glaze cream 12.6%. The dry milk, potato flour and yeast sit on my placeholder prices and add up to 34.3%, so check those three against your receipts first. The recipe has no butter in the filling, so a version that spreads butter under the cinnamon sugar needs another row. Open this pan in the calculator to change prices or add rows.

The same dough in other pans

The dough costs what it costs. Cut into 16 rolls it makes smaller ones, so the cost per roll falls and so should the price you ask for each. The third row doubles every amount and the 40 minutes, which may overstate the labor, since a second batch can go faster per roll. Margin is 40% in each row.

These boxes use the 12-roll pan: cost per roll $1.66, exact price per roll $2.76. Each box price is rounded up to a whole dollar, and the last column shows the margin that rounding leaves you. Boxes are an extra cost the 30 cents a roll only roughly covers, so use your own box price in the calculator.

What other sellers charge

Homegrown's cinnamon roll price guide (September 2026) suggests $5 for a single roll, $18 for 4, $26 for 6 and $48 for a dozen. These are their numbers, and they are asking prices, not sales. They report that small vendors on their site list single rolls at a median of $5.00 and dozens at a median of $2.08 a roll, from 7 dozen listings by 5 vendors. That is a small sample.

Their cost side is a $5.92 ingredient bill for 12 rolls, 90 minutes of hands-on time and $17.86 an hour, a baker median wage that they attribute to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Run their inputs through this calculator with no overhead line and the King Arthur recipe costs $2.85 a roll to make and $4.76 to sell at 40%. Their own true cost is $2.97. The gap is the recipe and the prices behind it, which is why your receipts beat anyone's table.

Rolls with a cream cheese frosting can fall under a state's rules for foods that need refrigeration, and those rules vary. Check yours before you price them.
